Minkaen Festival (Free Admission Day)

Free admission for everyone on this special day.

The interior of the Kabuki Stage from Funakoshi (a nationally designated important tangible folk cultural property) is open to the public. You can also enjoy other events such as experience of wearing folk clothing, traditional games, indigo dyeing fair, Cafe in the folk house, and etc.
Come and enjoy a walk in this beautiful season.

*Time for each event varies.
*It may be crowded on the day. Please refrain from sketching using chairs or easels, and photographing using tripod.

The Interior of Kabuki Stage from Funakoshi Open

In addition to viewing the hanamichi (walkway) and stage, you can also descend into naraku (below-stage basement) and try your hand at turning the revolving stage.
  • Time: 10:30 ~ 12:00 (reception until 11:30), 13:30 ~ 15:00 (reception until 14:30)

Experience of wearing traditional folk clothing

Children can try on traditional folk clothing including straw raincoat, straw boots, and etc.

Children can experience bamboo craft and play with traditional games such as ring-tossing and hoop-rolling.

Indigo Dyeing Fair (on Free Admission Day)

Art works by the staff of Traditional Indigo Dyeing Workshop are on exhibit, and indigo dyed stoles, traditional hand towels, T-shirts and others can be purchased.

Sales of the Straw Works, Bamboo Works and Woven Works
