Workshop of String Art “Lotus”

In this workshop, you can choose from a variety of colored strings, wind them around a grid of nails hammered into a wooden board to form geometric patterns.
The theme this time is "lotus", one of the flowers which symbolizes summer.
* Please note that the instructions is given in Japanese.

  • Date: July 25 (Saturday), 2026
  • Time: ①10:00 ~ 11:30 ②13:30 ~ 15:00 
  • Fee: 3,500 Yen (the admission fee to Nihon Minkaen for the participant is exempted; the admission fee for the accompany is required.)
  • Capacity: 16 participants for each time slot
  • Anyone older than elementary school students can participate (an elementary school student must be accompanied by the guardian)
  • Reservation: Starting June 12 (Friday). First come first served. Please see the page written in Japanese for details.
  • Place: the 2nd floor of 0. The Hara House


Annual Event Exhibition “Bon Festival”

The altar for Bon Festival is reproduced in the way that was handed down by the Kitamura family in Hadano. And the sand pile is introduced on a panel.

Annual Event Exhibition “The Summer Styled Interior in the Hara House”

In summer, the shoji (translucent paper sliding door) is replaced with sudo, a door made of fine bamboo strips allowing air to pass through, so that the room becomes airy and cool.

Special Exhibition of Traditional Indigo Dyeing Workshop “Inheriting the Indigo -Encountering Fabrics in a Folk House-“

Dyeing fabrics with indigo and continuing to use them — this practice has been handed down through the generations as a part of everyday life.

This exhibition will be held as a special exhibition of Traditional Indigo Dyeing Workshop. The world of indigo dyeing, normally presented at the Traditional Indigo Dyeing Workshop, will this time be introduced in the exhibition room of our museum.

We will showcase the process and beauty of indigo dyeing, and through actual dyed fabrics, we hope to convey the charm of indigo, which is created by human hands and the passage of time.
