Workshop of Making Wreath or Swag Using Mimosa, Hemp and Other Natural Materials of Spring

In this workshop, we will make swags and wreaths using mimosa, a symbolic flower that announces the arrival of spring, combined with hemp and other natural materials.
*Please note that the instructions is given in Japanese. Reservation is required to participate in this workshop. Please see the page written in Japanese for details.
  • Date: February 28 (Saturday), 2026
  • Time: ①10:00 ~ 12:00 ②14:00 ~ 16:00 
  • Fee: 3,900 Yen (Participants are exempt from admission fee to Minkaen, while accompanying persons must pay admission fee.)
  • Capacity: 15 participants for each time slot
  • Place: the 2nd floor of 0. The Hara House

Annual Event Exhibition “Momo no Sekku”

Hina dolls are displayed to pray for growth of girls.

Mini-Exhibition at Traditional Indigo Dyeing Workshop “Momo no Sekku”

Indigo-dyed works with patterns associated with the Hinamatsuri (the Girlʼs Festival), together with hina dolls, are on exhibit.

  • Date: Wednesday, January 21 ~ Sunday, March 8, 2026
  • Time: 9:30 ~ 16:30 *~ 17:00 from March
  • Fee: Free (inside Dento Kogeikan only) *Admission fee required to visit Nihon Minkaen
  • Place: Traditional Indigo Dyeing Workshop

Special Exhibition “Yukigakoi (Snow Fence) -the Sugawara House-“

Snow fence, a traditional way of protecting folk houses from heavy snow in snowy regions, is reproduced at the Sugawara House.

  • Date: Sunday, November 16, 2025 ~ Sunday, March 1, 2026
  • *The snow fence is installed on November 15 and 16, 2025, and is removed on March 1, 2026. The schedule may change depending on weather condition.
  • Time: any time during the opening hours

Special Exhibition “Living in Gokayama – 30th Anniversary of the Registration as a World Heritage Site”: October 1 ~ May 24

Three Gassho-style houses from the Gokayama region of Nanto City, Toyama Prefecture have been relocated to the Minkaen.
To commemorate the 30th anniversary of the registration of the Gassho-style Villages of Shirakawa-go and Gokayama, the home of these three houses, as a World Heritage Site, a special exhibition will be held focusing on the lifestyle and culture of the Gokayama region.

  • Hours: 9:30 ~ 17:00 (9:30 ~ 16:30 during November to February)
